Derby Owners Club

derby owners club pamphlet Last night Phil, Chris, Dave, and I went to Dave and Buster's for a bit of arcade gaming action. I played Derby Owners Club (DOC). This is one of those quintessentially Japanese game, but fortunately it got a worldwide release. DOC is a horse breeding and racing simulation. You choose the parents of your foal (you can even use previous horses that you have created), and then you train your foal in a series of exercises. Periodically there is a race, and all the players currently playing DOC (up to 8) participate. You get rewards for winning (of course), and after the race is over, you can review the race with your horse to improve your communication and relationship. When you create a new horse, you are given a memory card so that you can come back later and use the same horse. There seems to be a thriving trade of horses on eBay.

That's a fairly utilitarian description of the game, but the reason it's so fun is because it's so quirky. There's lot of Engrish in the dialogs. There's even a pamphlet that explains the game to you. If you get a chance to play this game, take it.

I love this game so much that I opened up my own website that actually sell horses bred from my advanced generation horses as well as advanced tips on racing. Stop by and check it out at: www.derby-owners-club.com.

I play one at Brunswick Zone in Glendale Heights, IL. It is never very buy there because most players don't know about it. Anyone up for a race???

I also love this game, I Drive a Semi and this game is rapidly growing in Popularity with the Truck Drivers because In the lower 48 states many of the Bosselman's and Petro Truck stops have started to setup the games in the Truck Stops and on an average all the seats are filled durring the day and somedays even into the night. Last week while playing a game i had a Asian Man come up to me and ask if i liked this game, I showed him my folder of Cards with a grin and he pointed to his friend standing behind us and informed me that he was one of the programers for the Asian Form of this game, It was fantastic meeting him, I only wish i would have thought to have him sign one of my Cards. LOL

Listen up, this game is becoming one of the most popular and quick growing games around. Go play with one horse, then go home learn all you can about the game and start your own line. DO NOT waste your time with horse having different parent. Try to get a brother and a sister and start breeding them together as soon as you build them up PROPERLY!

Is there any kind of home system ?

Posted by: john at October 15, 2004 09:13 PM

No home system and you wouldn't want it any way. Part of the attraction is racing against other people and winning or getting your butt kicked. That's why you try to learn everything you can about this game. TO GET THE BEST HORSE AND TRAIN THE BEST WAY!

Posted by: donnie at October 16, 2004 01:19 PM

how you train your horse for a front runner i mean he is a stretch runner right now. he wins alot but is in like last place and sometimes barely comes in the top three in the grade 1 races

Yeah this game is pretty awesome I just started playing at "The Works" next to the Lazer Quest and Baja Beach. i'm trying to get a sister horse for my horse Cheech which is a great horse I had only 2 Wins but I had gotten 1st on my Debut race with a horse I bred from it, If you get any tips or have any cards you don't want talk to me.

Posted by: Elijah at February 15, 2005 04:34 PM

Ive been playing this game for quite some time but im only on my first generation. Heres a few tip to get you guys going on your own good lines.

- You need over 50% wins to have better breeding stock (11 out of 20 wins at least)

- After you win your first Grade 1, advance to the 1R and get the special foods, there are 3 special foods (they boost all the stats by 2 or more) and this boosts the stats of the next horse you breed

- NEVER breed your own stock with the computer, its a waste of time (unless you want to improve dirt stat)

Good racing all

Posted by: Jamie at February 15, 2005 10:02 PM

ya i know its so fun you get adicted to it i spend over $30 every wednesday

Posted by: cody at March 10, 2005 01:47 AM

Hey its me again i was just wanderin if the horse i have (Jack's Bill) has won 3 out of 9 races with 2 photo finishes and got 3rd in winners stakes is that a good horse? Make sure when you are replying directly to me start with: Kitty-, ok? I also have 1 more question, do any of u have any good race-horse-money-related names for my horses, because im running out. Also, all of the people that have posted in the past and in the future, WE NEED TO POST A WHOLE LOT MORE THAN WE DO OK? Thats all i ahve to say so bye!

Posted by: kitt at March 28, 2005 06:44 PM

heyy my retired horse princess martinia won 16 of 20 races, my horse was a stretch runner great out of the box conering and outstanding spurt. it was on the 7th gen i won the triple crown with a photo finish i won by a nose it had the same time i guse it goes to the thousandths of a second. remember never breed one of your horses with a house horse it will waist your time.

My dad is the General Manager of D&B in Denver, Co. The first time my ada took me there and i laid eyes on the DOC i knew it was the game perfect game for me. My dad and i used to work on a horse together, but now we're against each other. I have two horses on the total earnings list. One of the horses is named Cloud Nine and the other is named Jessie's Champ. Lately i have been breedind good horses. One of my newer horses named Derby Champ was 2nd favorite on it's first race. I have also been winning a lot of races. I AM ON A ROLL!! I might be only thirteen, but i was born to play this game. So if you think you're brave enough to race me, then come on down!!!

Posted by: JESSICA H. at June 17, 2005 05:33 PM

hey if yall fill like a race then im here i have 5 horses and when they were breed they came from the comp and the first race they each got 2 place
then they came in 1 for the rest of the 9 races i raced so i have good breeding knowledge i have played around actual horses most of my life
each of my horses have almost 3 mill points

Posted by: draken at June 20, 2005 08:04 PM

There is a home system but its the full system. It has the 2 giant screens and 8 seats and it is like $50,000!!!! well i just wanted to let you know that because im looking for a home system myself and that is all i came across...

I oown Flatlander's Grille and Tap Room in Rochester (Henrietta-suburb) New York and have just installed the Derby Owners Club in my establishment. It has got to be one of the most unique, successful and fun games ever produced. I, along with my staff, and most importantly OUR CUSTOMERS, absolutely love this game!!

Posted by: Todd Quinlan at October 7, 2005 02:42 PM

You guys have alot to learn. Most people are not even using there computer horses, we buy card writers and make our OWN horses, and can change anything aroundb that you want to. I have many horses that have $230MIL in winnings and going up, and have 30/30 wins when retired, on my 70th generations. If I dont beat or come close to records, my horse considered BAD!

Anyone want some?

There is more to this game then just breeding... You have to be consistent in your training and always remember that the first race is always a handi-cap race... What that means is that your horse will not perform as well as it's earnings increase... There are whipping techs. that you must learn... Over whip your horse and it will suffer in it's next race by the whipp effect already being elevated... And don't race a baby against a monster it just hurts you stats and your feelings... No matter the stats a horse with 18 races and 12 losses should beat a horse with 6 races and 0 losses.. There is way to much to list here now... I will field questions as you post them... Thanks and good luck clittle1272@yahoo.com

WIll the D&B cards work at other establishments other than D&B, cause I got a horse this last time I was in San Antonio while on business. This horse is awesome and is only on its 14th race and has already won 9 races...I bred this horse from the PC and would like to go some place else closer to my home to race. Question: Can D&B cards work @ a different location that is not D&B, like @ Petro or Jilians or whatever?

Posted by: irenate at March 11, 2006 03:40 AM

Hi,

I am a huge fan of D&B to. I have playing for almost 3 years. Perhaps we could share information about records and horses because D&B isn't very popular in Holland.

Yes, you can use the cards on any Derby Owner Club's machine. I have used mine at a Petro and a D & B's....and I know that they work because I only have two cards.
